Web Hosting

Best Hosting Sites – But Wait, What Is Hosting?

Best Hosting SitesWhat are the best hosting sites out there and what is web hosting exactly?

First, let’s start with what’s a web hosting service.

According to Wikipedia: “A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity,”

Let’s use an analogy here to try to make sense of it. Imagine the web hosting is a bowl. The domain name is the lid, you can have multiple lids that all fits on the same bowl but your bowl is the main home base. The hosting bowl is where you put all your content, your files, pictures, videos. So in our analogy, think of the content as your salad; the bowl “hosting” contains your lettuce, roman leaves, onions, cucumber and tomatoes.

Since I’m already here explaining this, allow me to elaborate. WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and many other website platforms would be considered as a compartments within your “hosting” bowl or a smaller container within your bowl. I’ll leave it at that for now, I’ll make another video just on those platforms in the future.

Ok so understanding the best hosting sites now. In our analogy, the hosting bowl you are using belongs to a chef and the chef represent the hosting sites or hosting companies.  The companies are online hence why we call them sites. You agree to rent the hosting bowl from the hosting site Chef at a monthly fee. In return, he keeps your files “salad content”, which are in bowl “hosting” and puts it in the fridge “hosting servers”.

Just a side note here, on your computer you have a hard drive, a server space is like a folder with your name on it on the hosting company’s hard drive in their building.

Ok back to our kitchen analogy. At any time if you have a question, you can ask the chef “the hosting site or hosting company” to help you with cooking “technical support”. It’s better to have a chef that’s available 24/7 365 days per year, which means there’s always someone you can talk to for help.

So all that to say: “In plain English that means; if you want to have your own website on the internet, web hosting the first thing you need.” You don’t need to understand all the technical lingo as it’s irrelevant for your business, it’s like trying to figure out how electricity works. Especially if you’re starting out and all you want is website to brand your business, pretty much any hosting will be more than enough as it’s a pretty basic need that you want.

There are also free services available out there however if I were you I wouldn’t consider this if you plan on going in business. The free best hosting sites are mainly for people who want to run a hobby website for fun. Also avoid even the free best hosting sites because they are usually full of ads beyond your control. That’s how they get paid.

The Best Hosting Sites Are:

Side Note! If security is important for your website, look for secure server certificates. You can add this button to your website so customers feel it is a more trustworthy website to visit.

In my opinion, the best hosting sites are the ones that includes 24/7, 365 days per year technical support, by live chat and telephone. Notice that when it comes to online and hosting, it’s much easier to deal with support via chat as you can copy and paste long website name url in the chat box.

The best hosting sites also guarantee their servers to be on 99% of the time.

The best hosting sites will also have a good deal to sign up with them. Such as a lower price if you sign up for their services for either 2 or 3 years at a time, you’ll get a special monthly discount if you pay it all upfront.

Overall, the best hosting sites that I’m aware of give people an opportunity where they can make their own website and upload their content on a server that another company runs.

Godaddy.com has set itself as an industry leader for small home based business. It’s got excellent support and everything you need to get started. I know many professionals that use Godaddy as a good starting point for their business, including me.

Startlogic.com is another great hosting company that I personally use. I like the fact that I have unlimited space access on my server and 50 SQL databases. Not that everyone needs that, again, that’s just a personal preference for me.

BlueHost.com is also amongst the list of the best hosting sites as it also provides 24/7 support, unlimited hosting space, easy to use and I’ve seen it recommended quite often from various marketers and on wordpress.org site.

HostGator.com has also been recommend a lot although I have no direct experience with them, it’s certainly one that’s on my list. They’re powered 100% by wind energy so if you’re “green” then you might want to support this company by taking your services through them.

There you go, hopefully you got a little bit more information on what hosting’s all about and which ones are the best hosting sites that I know of.  Again, these are only 4 of thousands out there and I don’t know them all. If you want more variety with more in-depth or advance technical information then by all means I would recommend that you research something along the lines of “Hosting Reviews” or “Top 10 Hosting” and continue your research.

What about you, what do you plan to put online?
